The story

Wo Hui Mandarin is an educational platform that transforms Chinese learning into an engaging, mountain-climbing journey. Integrating real-world content and leveraging data analytics, it offers a rich, adaptive learning experience.

Our task was to redesign the web app to better align with the mobile app’s UX and aesthetics, build a unified design system, and introduce new web-specific features that enhance user engagement and learning efficiency.

Wo Hui Mandarin’s web and mobile apps were developed by different companies, leading to inconsistencies in design styles, functionality and overall user experience. Our goal was to unify these two platforms, ensuring a seamless experience for learners across both.

The Solution

We began by conducting a thorough audit of both the existing web and mobile apps to identify areas of inconsistency in design, usability, and overall user experience. Working closely with Wo Hui's internal team, we listed and prioritized features most relevant to the web experience. We also mapped out user stories and ensured the updated interface would cater to unmet needs from previous design effectively.

We developed a comprehensive design system inspired by Google Material, tailored to incorporate unique Chinese language elements such as characters, pinyin, and intonation. This created a look and feel, while ensuring both scalability and usability as the product evolved.
